It’s time for tacos, tequila, and mariachis! This year’s Cinco de Mayo falls on a Thursday, so that means festivities will continue on throughout the weekend. Be sure to check out these five spots in San Diego and La Jolla, especially Old Town’s famous 33-year-old festival, complete with dinner/drink deals and live music!
This isn’t your madre’s cinco de mayo! CincoTeca Dos at Puesto at The Headquarters downtown will feature live music from TJ’s Nortec Collective along with special guests Javiera Mena and Gepe. The free show starts at 3:30pm, and there will be margarita and beer specials from Casa Noble Tequila and Modelo Especial throughout the evening. Party the day away with a taco in your hand at this free, all ages show! 3:30 -9:30pm.
Puesto La Jolla will also have its own tasty specials. On May 5 and 6 they’ll be serving up three tacos plus a beer for $10, plus special flavors throughout the weekend.
Old town will be transformed into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration north of the border for three straight days, filled with mariachis, cervezas, great food, and more! Starting Friday at 4pm,enjoy food and drink specials at 10+ Old Town restaurants, continuing from 11am-10pm Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday the 8th.
Bazaar del Mundo restaurants will also have mariachi bands and folklore dancers starting at noon. Participating eateries include Casa Guadalajara, Casa de Bandini and Casa de Pico. The Fiesta will feature three different stages with live entertainment, more than 40 bands (including traditional ballet folklorico performances), beer and cantina gardens, and of course, Low Rider Lane! This is a great family-friendly event and makes for a great weekend-long celebration of the Mexican holiday.
The Hotel Del Coronado will be hosting four days of Cinco de Mayo festivities on the Sun Deck with a special menu and festive music starting Thursday. On Friday-Sunday from 1-3pm, Mariachi De San Diego will perform. Come relax in the sunshine and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Coronado from the Sun Deck!
The restaurant and bar will be hosting a special Cinco de Mayo event featuring an authentic taco cart from Tacos La Movida and $5 drink specials. Azucar, a Mexican pop band, will provide the entertainment for the evening, as well as DJ sets from various local acts, piñatas, and a dance party! Make sure to get there early – the bar will definitely fill up fast. 9pm-2am. 1030 Broadway, San Diego 92101.
San Diego’s biggest public park will host the Concierto Cinco a Las Cinco on May 5 where local musicians will play tunes from south of the border. Families are encouraged to bring the kids along for this event at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Starts at 6pm.
