Free Summer Concerts by the Sea
Are you a rock ‘n roll fan? A country music lover? Or are the blues or big bands more your swinging thing? Whatever your musical preference, pull up a chair or put on your dancing shoes and join the happy crowd at Ellen Browning Scripps Park overlooking the La Jolla Cove on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m. Starting Sunday, July 7, and running through Labor Day weekend, La Jolla Concerts by the Sea presents a free musical concert every Sunday afternoon for people of all ages. The event also includes concessions stands, food trucks and raffles for prizes. Master of Ceremonies is popular La Jolla disc jockey Ron Jones, also known as “The Voice of La Jolla.”

July 7 – Rockola (classic rock and roll)
July 14 – Big Time Operator (swing)
July 21 – Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash (country)
July 28 – Bill Magee Blues Band (blues)
August 4 – Benny Hollman Big Band (big band, swing)
August 11 – Theo & the Zydeco Patrol (Cajun blues)
August 18 – The Heroes (rock and roll)
August 25 – BetaMaxx (1980s hits)
September 1 – Sue Palmer & Her Motel Swing Orchestra (boogie woogie, swing)

Athenaeum Summer Festival
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library kicks off its 15th annual Summer Festival on Sunday, July 7. The concerts are held at 4 p.m. on July 7, 14, 21 and 28 at the Scripps Research Institute Auditorium, 10640 John J. Hopkins Drive, La Jolla. This summer’s concerts feature pianist Gustavo Romero performing works by Maurice Ravel and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Following the concerts, optional dinners are held at private residences.
