Honor the special fathers in your life by treating them to a fabulous meal. Several restaurants in La Jolla are offering specials for Father’s Day (Sunday, June 16) so you can say a toast and enjoy first-rate company and food. Be sure to call ahead for reservations as these special meal celebrations will be very popular.
For the steak and seafood loving dads, nothing beats Donovan’s Steak and Chop House on La Jolla Village Drive. On Father’s Day, Donovan’s is offering their regular menu plus special prime rib dinners. Dinner seating starts at 4 p.m. with the last seating at 9 p.m. While you’re in the area, take in a movie at the new Arclight Cinemas at Westfield UTC shopping center. You can reserve your comfortable seats ahead of time, or even from your cell phone during dinner. Don’t forget to pick up dessert and coffee at the theater’s snack bar.
If eclectic menus appeal to your special dads, treat them to a array of fresh, organic food at Herringbone on Herschel. Herringbone is open for lunch, dinner as well as Sunday brunch. On Father’s Day they will be featuring a special showing of surfboards by local surfboard maker Tim Bessel. The boards are designed with the artwork of Andy Warhol.
The Shores Restaurant, located in the La Jolla Shores Hotel, is always a popular family dining restaurant. Sit just steps from the sand and enjoy a Sunday brunch or take in the beautiful sunset during dinner. The restaurant is offering a special a la carte menu for Father’s Day dinner including Angus bone-in rib eye steak, charbroiled local swordfish and poached Maine lobster tail.
Not far from the Shores, the Marine Room is also known for its ocean view, with the waves just inches away on the other side of the large windows. The Marine Room has been helping families honor fathers for decades and is one of La Jolla’s most popular restaurants. Their special Father’s Day dinner includes Colorado free range veal osso buco with glazed root vegetables, Angus cote de boeuf with peppered figs and truffle béarnaise, and the Spindrift trilogy (Maine Lobster tail, diver scallops and Baja prawns) with carrot tangerine risotto and asparagus.
If the fathers you are celebrating are wine lovers, consider the Father’s Day Wine and Food Walking Tour, offered by La Jolla Wine Tours (aka San Diego Beer and Wine Tours). The tours are offered daily through the end of June. Starting at 2:30 p.m., the leisurely walking tour will take you through La Jolla. While you learn about the history and culture of La Jolla, you can also sample wine and food at some of La Jolla’s best restaurants and wine bars. Enjoy a variety of foods such as pasta, seafood and chocolate. The company also offers chauffeured bus tours to San Diego’s wine country.
