La Jolla is full of options for interesting activities during day, but why end the fun when the sun goes down? If you want to enjoy La Jolla after dark, there is an endless list of possibilities, especially during the summer. While walks on the beach and stopping in for late night happy hour is always an option, change things up and check out these unique nighttime activities in La Jolla:
Full-Moon Pier Walk. The full-moon pier walk is a one of a kind tour hosted by the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. The guided tour starts and ends at the Birch Aquarium and traverses along, and on top of the Scripps Pier. During the tour, the aquarium’s knowledgeable guides point out all of the exciting marine activity that goes on after the sun sets. Interested? The next walks will be held on August 20th and 21st from 7pm-9:30pm.
Guided Night Dive. Swimming in the ocean at night might be a little scary for some people, but for those brave souls who want to see what happens in the ocean at night, this is the tour for you. The guided night tour is put on by San Diego Expeditions who also conduct scuba and kayaking tours during the day. For $130 divers can come face-to-face with some of the ocean’s nocturnal creatures swimming along the wall of the cove or canyon. And yes, you are given a light to swim with so you can see!
“Flicks on the Bricks.” If old movies and wine are more your style, be sure to stop by the Athenaeum, a La Jolla library for music and arts, for its 7th annual “Flicks on the Bricks” event. For the first four Thursday evenings in August (the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd) a different classic movie will be shown on the museum’s large, open patio. Viewers can enjoy the movie while sitting outdoors and enjoying a specially paired wine. Tickets are $22 per person per night and the cost includes the price of wine. Attendees must be at least 21.
These La Jolla after dark activities are just a few ways to enjoy this stunning coastal community. How do you like to enjoy your summer nights in the beautiful La Jolla, California? Comment and share your favorite nighttime locations!
