Ellen Browning Scripps is a special person in La Jolla’s history. As the leading philanthropist for the community, Scripps changed the image of La Jolla into what we know it today. From the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Scripps Park at the La Jolla Cove, Scripps Memorial Hospital, Torrey Pines State Park, the Bishop’s School, the Scripps Research Institue, and to the famous children’s pool, Ellen Browning Scripps truly played an important role in helping create the ‘jewel city’.
Born on October 18, 1836, the annual Ellen Browning Scripps Luncheon celebrates the birthday and hard work accomplished by an incredible women. The luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 19, at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. This years special speaker features Dr. Molly Mclain from the University of San Diego. The luncheon will focus on the village of La Jolla during the era of Ellen Browning Scripps and the wonderful things she left for this seaside community. Ticket prices range from $55.00-$65.00.
