El Indio Mexican Restaurant | San Diego

La Jolla Blue Book presents our latest “Quiet on the Set” video featuring El Indio Mexican Restaurant and Catering.

Located on India Street in San Diego, El Indio Mexican Restaurant is a family owned and operated restaurant, catering and tortilla factory.

El Indio is one of San Diego’s best Mexican casual dining and is home to the original taquito. El Indio first began as a tortilleria (tortilla factory) by founder Ralph Pesqueira Sr in 1940. He made fresh corn tortillas and branched out to an all out Mexican restaurant with his signature rolled tacos which he called “taquitos.” Today they offer an array of traditional Mexican dishes from tamales to tacos prepared daily with fresh ingredients made from their in-house tortilleria.

This popular place has also been featured in Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” and KPBS “Wonderland.” When at El Indio a must have are their world famous chips, made from their very own corn tortillas and a secret blend of spices. They also offer vegetarian friendly dishes such as potato tacos, cheese enchiladas and vegetarian burritos. Hosting an event or party? El Indio offers catering for small to large events.

El Indio is open daily from 8am-9pm and offers indoor and outdoor sitting. To learn more, visit El Indio Mexican Restaurant online or contact them at
