The 56th Annual La Jolla Christmas Parade and Holiday Festival is going to have the city feeling a lot like Christmas come this Sunday, December 8. This year’s theme, “Christmas in the surf and sand,” is more than appropriate due to La Jolla’s beautiful seaside location and is sure to be a hit with visiting family and friends!
The parade will start at 2 pm at the corner of Kline St. and Girard Ave., marching towards The Grand Colonial Inn, famous for its luxurious accommodations, and then turning left to end at the holiday festival grounds located at the La Jolla Recreation Center at 615 Prospect Street. Parade spectators will be able to see extravagant floats, equestrian units, vintage automobiles, and marching units moving to the beat of their own drum. Visitors can see the beautiful horses starting at 10 am, float judging will begin at 12 pm and sometime during the day an antique aircraft is scheduled to fly over La Jolla.
The holiday festival will open at 3:30 pm and the Christmas tree lighting will take place at the center at 4:30 pm. Attendees will be able to participate in various arts and crafts while enjoying the food and live entertainment made available until 5 pm. Santa will also be present to meet with the kids and take photos.
If you’re looking for a place to grab dinner after all the holiday fun, consider one of the many nearby fine dining restaurants in La Jolla, all within walking distance. A few of our favorites include the Museum Cafe by Giuseppe, Café Milano, Nine-Ten and Tapenade. Event organizers are expecting over 20,000 people in the city for this event, so it’d be wise to make a reservation in advance.
