San Diego county is full of bright lights this time of year. You can find elaborate holiday light decorations in neighborhoods, at local attractions, and even on the San Diego Bay! Here is a guide to find the most ornate and creative Christmas lights in San Diego 2013.
San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
This 42 year long San Diego tradition is something the entire family can enjoy. Viewable from almost anywhere along the bay shore, the parade starts at Shelter Island and makes its way past Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and finishes at the Ferry Landing on Coronado. The parade will take place on Sunday December 8th, and Sunday December 15th and begin at 5:30PM both days. The majority of parking in the downtown area is free on Sundays, so be sure to take advantage of this fun and festive holiday event!
San Diego Zoo’s Jungle Bells
The San Diego Zoo will once again be hosting their Jungle Bells Holiday event. During the three week celebration, the Zoo will be transformed into a winter wonderland full of lighted animal displays, live animal shows, storytelling, bell ringers, and Santa Claus. The Jungle Bells celebration will begin December 15th and last through the holiday season. Entry to the festival is included with zoo admission.
Hotel del Coronado
San Diego’s iconic Hotel del Coronado will be dressed in over 100,000 white lights this year. Celebrating their 125th anniversary, the theme this season is, “Celebrating 125 Years of Holiday Magic”. This southern california winter wonderland will able be hosting numerous festivities throughout december including victorian tea, skating by the sea, and Sunday brunch with Santa. The Christmas tree in the lobby itself is a San Diego landmark, not to mention that the hotel introduced the world’s first electrically-lighted outdoor Christmas tree in 1904! Holiday activities are currently going on now and will last until January 5th.
Carmel Mountain Ranch, 92128
Located at Fairway Village, Carmel Mountain Ranch is a great place to take the family for a night stroll. Decorated with world peace in mind, you will notice the 80 decorated homes have a common theme of diverse ethnicities. Carmel Mountain Ranch will be on view during the entire month of December from 5:00PM-10:00PM nightly.
Hundreds of locals flock to Clairemont during the holiday season to see the neighborhoods best displays. Near the intersection of Lana Drive & Jamar, you will find over 40 homes decorated head-to-toe in over the top christmas lights. The christmas displays are on nightly through this holiday seasons.
Oceanside is full of holiday lights, but on Esplanade Street and Quiet Hills Drive, you will find homes that feature a choreographed light show. Set your radio to either 99.5 FM or 87.9 FM, and enjoy the show! The synchronized light shows start at 5:00PM at both locations and are nightly throughout the month of December.
