La Jolla is a wonderful neighborhood, full of gracious and generous people. Whether they are devoting their time, effort or money to a cause, members of La Jolla Churches are constantly giving back to their community in a variety of ways. If you are looking for a great way to connect with your local community, Churches in La Jolla provide members with the opportunity to get involved with outreach programs, mission trips, fundraisers and volunteer projects.

Homeless outreach programs allow participants to get directly involved with aiding homeless people in our area. Whether you are donating food for meals, clothing and linens or your time to serve the homeless people of San Diego, any contribution is greatly appreciated. Another community service La Jolla Churches partake in is Military outreach.  San Diego has a large population of Military families who are in need. Participants are able to show their appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our military and their families by putting together care packages and collecting children’s clothing.

Many Churches in La Jolla will put together fundraisers to benefit a cause that the congregation views as an important philanthropy. Throughout the year, the Church holds several special events, bake sales, auctions and more, to raise money that will be donated to the cause.

Mission trips are another way to give back to our global community. Travel with others from your Church in La Jolla to impoverished countries and help them build homes, dig wells and build schools. They work alongside La Jolla contractors who are able to put their expertise to work for the ultimate benefit of these communities. Mission trips such as these, have a tremendous impact on the communities where the groups travel to and serve as well as a great experience for its participants.

A church can help create a sense of community and closeness among its members as well as the general public. There are usually various holiday celebrations, community events, volunteering opportunities and many other activities to participate in or lend a helping hand. If you are thinking about visiting a new church and possibly becoming a member, it is a good idea to visit their website to get a feel for it beforehand. You might have a coworker or family member who attends a church you’re interested in, so you can talk to them about it and see if it sounds like a good fit for you and your family.

The following are only a few of the popular churches in the La Jolla area:

The La Jolla Lutheran Church’s philosophy is simple. They teach what the Bible says and then allow you to form your own thoughts about it. Their main theme throughout worship and the service itself is that God loves you. When you arrive you will see all ages gathered together and socializing. And for the younger members of your family there is Sunday school offered at the same time as the regular church service. There is also no dress code so wear what makes you feel comfortable. They meet Sundays at 9:30 am.

The La Jolla Presbyterian Church centers around 4 core values which are nurturing, equipping, going and celebrating. They are a church that values a relationship with God and with each other. They offer 3 service times with 2 traditional services and 1 contemporary service. There are also Sunday school classes and nursery care available.

Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church is simplistic and beautiful. They offer several mass times throughout the week, and even offer Spanish mass as well. Mary Star of the Sea teaches the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, which is the restoration of the ancient practice of initiation into the church. It is a journey of faith for those seeking information and also hoping to enter into the Catholic Church.

St. James By-the-Sea Episcopal Church welcomes everyone, regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey. Their services are traditional and they encourage everyone to come together in prayer and worship. They offer Sunday school for children as well. There are many children’s events throughout the year such as a Christmas pageant and Bible Drama Camp.

The La Jolla Community Church has 2 identical Sunday services with refreshments in between. Children’s Sunday school is offered during both times as well. Their vision is simple: to equip people to love and serve Jesus Christ. The church body consists of a diverse group of people coming together through discovering Jesus Christ.
