37th Annual Balboa Park December Nights is Dec. 5 & 6

balboa park december nightsBalboa Park December Nights, the park’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 37th consecutive year on Friday Dec. 5 from 3pm-11pm, and Saturday Dec. 6 from noon-11pm. Participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5pm-9pm both evenings. More than 350,000 visitors are expected to experience the joy of San Diego’s largest free community festival this year, and it will surely be another multicultural extravaganza with tons of food, music, and entertainment.

Guests will get the chance to watch top-notch musical and dance performances at the beautiful Organ Pavilion while enjoying delicious and diverse food choices, including the yearly crowd favorite – hot apple cider. Some of the more well-known options include food from around the globe at the International Christmas Festival, located at the House of Pacific Relations Cottages; the annual Santa Lucia Procession at the Plaza de California; unique gift shopping at the museum stores and with the artisans of Spanish Village; and musical and dance presentations from the San Diego Junior Theatre, San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, Del Cerro Baptist’s Christmas Story Tree, and more.

Quick tips: Get there early! Parking is limited. If you are interested in checking out the Museum of Man during the “free” hours, be sure to head there first – the line there is typically much longer than the other museums’. Plus, check out the newest attraction this year – December Flights’ Zipline! Take a two-hundred foot Zipline ride past the historic and beautifully lit Moreton Bay Fig Tree.

Transportation: The December Nights Shuttles at PETCO Park and City College run on Friday from 3:00pm-midnight and on Saturday from 11:30am-midnight in all locations. There is one free parking lot at the San Diego Zoo for this event. Click here for complete transportation info.
