The Athenaeum Presents: SoundON Festival of Modern Music Jan 8-11

The soundON Festival of Modern Music, presented by San Diego New Music and The Athenaeum, is an annual festival that showcases music by young and emerging composers alongside the visionary masters of the 20th century. The Festival will feature unconventional works in an informal and enjoyable setting at The Athenaeum, as well as a series of interactive workshops for younger music and art aficionados. Now in its eighth year, the soundON Festival has become an important fixture in the musical landscape of San Diego.

All performances will be held in the Joan & Irwin Music Room at the Athenaeum, with the exception of the January 9 Workshops, which will be held at either the Athenaeum’s School of the Arts La Jolla Studio and at the School Studio on Park Blvd. in University Heights. The 2015 soundON Festival of Modern Music will be presenting exclusive world premieres by Mark Menzies, Christopher Adler, and festival favorite Juan Campoverde Q, along with works by Sidney Marquez Boquiren and New York composer Eric Wubbels. They will also be celebrating contemporary virtuosos, including Pierre Boulez, Elliott Carter, and San Diego’s very own Chinary Ung.
