Enjoying the view
La Jolla has recently been the center of a new kind of movie theatre experience. Last november, Archlight La Jolla opened at Westfield UTC, as part of the malls multi-million dollar renovation. With larger seats, a restaurant, and chic decor, Arclight gave locals something entirely new. But now, a community landmark is redesigning its image to compete with the newcomer. AMC 12 La Jolla is currently set to be completely finished with renovations by the end of this month. We went to AMC La Jolla to find out even more information about the makeover.

Over 100 kinds of soda
Currently, 9 out of the 12 theatres are open for business. By August, the other 3 will be ready to screen movies. Theatres now have fully reclining leather seats that include 2 arm rests. You no longer need to fight and push with your friends for the coveted spot! The downside to having these comfortable reclining chairs is that AMC La Jolla is now at about 1/3 of its original capacity. Theatres that had 400 seats now have about 150. And smaller theatres that had around 100 seats now have only 40. Despite not having stadium seating, seats have been raised for your viewing comfort. Outside of the auditoriums, you will also notice huge differences. We learned that AMC is building a full restaurant and bar where the secondary concession stand used to be. Now you can grab dinner and drinks before your next movie! Theatres 5-9 will be altered to accommodate 21+ showings. In addition, the main concession stand has been given a clean face lift and now includes interactive soda machines where you can create over 100 types of pop. The temporary ticket booth that was located in the lobby will be gone and the main ticket counter will be reopened upstairs with a fresh new look.

You’re going to want a blanket!
So with all this change does that mean it will cost movie goers an arm and a leg to attend? Fortunately, no! Ticket prices still remain at $11, but when everything is completed, ticket prices will only raise by $1 for a total price of $12. This is the average price of “luxury theatres” AMC says, and we believe it’s still a good deal. You may also want to arrive at AMC a little earlier as well. Not only for the food and drinks, but to buy your tickets to make sure your show doesn’t sell out due to limited capacity.
La Jolla Blue Book wants to send you to the movies! We are giving away one $25 AMC gift card to one lucky winner. To enter, tell us which movie you’re excited to see this summer by leaving a comment below. Contest closes on July 24 at noon where a random entry will be chosen. Open only to San Diego residents. Good luck and we’ll see you at the movies!
