The 8th annual La Jolla Art & Wine Festival returns to La Jolla on October 8th and 9th this year. As one of the most prestigious art and wine festivals in Southern California, the LJAWF will feature the works of more than 150 established artists from all over the world. Best of all, the Festival remains free, family-friendly, and open to the public!
This year’s festival will take place along Girard Avenue (between Torrey Pines and Prospect Street) from 10am-7pm on Saturday and 10am-6pm on Sunday. Art will be showcased in a variety of mediums — sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, photography, and more.
Other activities will include a silent auction, live musical entertainment, a gourmet marketplace, a wine and beer garden, plus a newly expanded family art center sponsored by Geppetto’s! The family center will be located on Wall Street and offer various activities for the little ones. Kids will get the chance to meet Meredith Scott Lynn and Maggie Wheeler of “Write Brain World;” complete a Lego Star Wars building project; work on various arts and crafts; and do some fun physical activities with the La Jolla YMCA from 11am-4pm.
Live entertainment will feature the La Jolla High School Marching Band on Saturday and a quirky Parade of Stilt Walkers on Sunday, among other musical acts. When you and the kids get hungry, there will be plenty of great food options, including Poke Go, Puesto, Beachin’ Boba, and Bullseye Kettle Corn & Shave Ice. If you’re looking to quench your thirst with a cold one, you’ll have your choice of a few favorite local breweries like Absolution, Stone Brewing, Mission Brewery, and Sierra Nevada.
The La Jolla Art & Wine Festival was originally created by Friends of La Jolla Elementary, founders of the La Jolla Open Aire Market, and has only grown in numbers through the years. All profits raised will benefit underfunded programs such as art, music, science, physical education, technology, and on-site medical care at local public elementary and middle schools.
