5 Dog Friendly La Jolla Restaurants (With Doggie Menus)

Dog owners out there can all agree that dogs are much more than a pet; they are a part of the family. So when it comes time to go out for a nice meal at a restaurant, it’s easy to feel guilty leaving our pooches at home to eat canned dog food while we dine on fresh and delicious dishes at fun locations. However, after a little bit of research we’ve come to find that there are many dog friendly La Jolla restaurants, and some offer menus specifically catered to dogs. Here is our round-up:

1. La Jolla Brewing Company
7536 Fay Ave
La Jolla, CA 92037

Monty the Yorkie
La Jolla Brewing Company is a local destination for great beer. They not only offer a 24 tap rotating selection of some of San Diego’s finest, but they also serve their own hand-crafted beer. Their company emphasis on community is what sets them apart, along with their great food. Try their “IPA Battered Fish & Chips,” and order the “Burger Patty” from the doggie menu for your pet. The patty is pretty massive so its perfect for dogs, big and small. Their dog friendly outdoor seating area also has fire pits for chilly nights as well as a retractable roof, perfect for escaping the summer heat.

2. Cody’s La Jolla
8030 Girard Ave.
La Jolla, CA 92037

Generous portions and an ocean view are a dining combination that is hard to beat at Cody’s La Jolla. Sip on a pomegranate mimosa while your doggies are given a bowl of fresh water to enjoy after a walk along the La Jolla Cove. We suggest ordering the French Toast, made with thick slices of challah bread, smothered in candied walnuts, strawberries, and butter. The dogs can also choose from a grilled chicken breast or scrambled eggs for lunch.

Newly opened in 2014, this La Jolla Shores gem serves breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner Wednesday-Sunday. They grind their espresso and coffee every day and even cold brew a Kyoto blend which you can get with some delicious macademia nut milk. Shorehouse Kitchen treats the dogs even better, offering complementary purified water as well as a four item menu just for canines. The “Fido’s Finest” consists of a grass fed beef patty topped with roasted turkey and bacon bits . Shorehouse Kitchen also has an adorable dog house located right out front the restaurant, perfect for some shade or perhaps a little post brunch nap!

4. The Shack Bar & Grill
6941 La Jolla Blvd
La Jolla, CA 92037

If the family is interested in a more casual dining experience, Shack Bar & Grill is the place to visit. Named after Windansea’s famous surf shack right on the beach, it offers up many tasty drinks and food for surfers, tourists, and locals alike. The patio offers ample space for your pooch to relax and enjoy a plain burger or chicken breast from their canine menu for an affordable $3. As for the humans, we recommend hitting it up on Taco Tuesdays for their $3 Mahi Mahi and Spicy Chicken Tacos and $3 margaritas.

5. Barbarella
2171 Avenida De La Playa
La Jolla, CA 92037

Similarly to Shorehouse Kitchen, Barbarella is also located in the Shores and has a unique “Italian bistro” vibe. If you enjoy seafood try the mussels in a white wine, garlic, and Meyer lemon broth. For the pups, order the “Hot Diggity Dog,” a simple beef hot dog cut into bite size pieces. If your dog already ate dinner beforehand, Barbarella also offers a “Cold Nose Treat,” which is a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. This dog friendly restaurant in La Jolla is the perfect stop before hitting the beach to watch the sunset.

Whether it is for a Saturday morning breakfast or a fancier night out, check out one of these dog friendly La Jolla restaurants and your dog will feel right at home.
