The Holiday Bowl’s annual Holiday Bowl Parade celebrates its 25th anniversary this year! Join San Diego in celebration on Wednesday, December 30th during this free and fun event estimated to attract 100,000 attendees to the sidelines.
The parade begins at 10:00am (grandstands are located at the intersection of Harbor Drive & Ash Street) and highlights performances from drill and dance teams with a huge variety of costumes and routines. Local marching bands and drumlines will keep the spirit going throughout the morning. Be sure not to miss horseback riders and beautifully designed floats, as well as the Holiday Bowl Parade’s famed giant balloons! Last year the parade had a record 28 balloons. If you’re interested in getting involved next year, you can volunteer to march as a balloon handler or banner holder (see FAQ here).
Quick Tips for the Holiday Bowl Parade
You can enter to win tickets to the game and parade. Though spectators can stand on the sidewalks for free, tickets for grandstand seating will be sold for $20/seat the day of. This special seating will make sure you get the best view of the parade, as well as get a chance to see all the marching groups perform for the parade broadcast. Space is limited and tickets are first-come, first-serve.
If you’d like to get there early, be eco-friendly, or just save on parking costs, SDMTS has traditionally provided special transportation services the day of the Holiday Bowl Parade. Check their event details here for more info. If you’re driving, be aware of street closures starting at 7:45 am, listed on the website. Rumor has it the best parking lot is at the corner of Pacific Highway & Broadway; otherwise, try metered parking.
Other Holiday Bowl Activities
For a cute and entertaining time, check out the 20th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Dog Nationals at 9:30 am. There’s nothing more fun than racing dachshunds. There’s also a Battle of the Bands at 11:45 am on Broadway Pier that music fans will want to see. If you’re an early bird, the Bumble Bee Foods 5k goes from 9 am – 1 pm.
