Community Spotlight: La Jolla’s Oldest Nail Salon

Celebrating 30+ years in La Jolla and for the holidays as well as into January, Girard Nail & Skin Care is offering $5 off her already very low prices for all of her mani-pedi packages and skincare facial services.

Girard Nail & Skin Care, located at 7454 Girard Avenue, has been a part of the La Jolla community since 1988, the longest of any nail salon in the Village – up to four generations of women (and men) have been going to the salon! Hah Nguyen, current owner, loves the relationships she’s developed with each of her clients and only hopes to continue the salon’s family-run legacy.

A Family Affair

Hah was born and grew up in Vietnam, where she studied home economics and had a career as a TV anchor briefly. She moved to the US in 1992, and has been involved in some way with the salon for many years. One of her favorite parts about the business is simply being with people – she says many of her customers have taught her new things, from new words in English to the best places to shop in the Village.

A rare feat nowadays, Girard Nail is an extremely family-oriented operation. Hah’s sister-in-law helps with the day-to-day operations, and even those who aren’t technically family at the shop are still treated like so. They eat together, work together, and essentially do everything together; that incredible relationship is evident from the moment a client walks in and makes for an intimate, comfortable, and relaxed atmosphere.

An interesting fact about the salon (and just one of many that makes it so unique): there’s a small piano in the back of the shop that customers wouldn’t necessarily take notice of. The piano is actually Nguyen’s and was gifted to her by a family member many years ago. It’s one of her favorite ways to pass the time, and if the store is ever slow, you’ll find her sitting down playing some tunes.

A Full Salon Experience

Girard Nail remains a full-service salon, and provide everything from manicures to waxing and pedicures. Their hand, feet, and scalp massages are some of the best in La Jolla; just ask one of their long-time clients! As an added bonus, the salon also offer facials – and at much more reasonable prices than spas. If you’re looking for a place to relax and take a break from your busy day, this is a great little tucked-away sanctuary right in the heart of the Village.

Girard Nail is located at 7454 Girard Avenue. Give them a call at (858) 459-4740 today to schedule your next appointment!
