Pillage The Village
Downtown La Jolla

Tuesday October 31st, 3pm-6pm

Get ready for the annual Pillage the Village in Downtown La Jolla! Put on your best outfit, and walk around the Village in costume for a little Halloween fun. Local businesses who are participating will have orange and black balloons visible, so you know where you’ll be able to trick-or-treat. Locals tip: Start at Girard and Prospect, and work your way through downtown La Jolla. Enjoy the festivities!

Belmont Park
Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Be sure to check out Belmont Park as they transform the beachfront amusement park into “Boomont Park”. Attractions include zombie laser tag, pumpkin patch, roller coasters, and different crafts. Don’t miss out on the costume contests and Halloween festivities!

The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park
Every Day Until Nov 2nd

Located in San Diego’s world famous Balboa Park, The Haunted Trail is a stroll through the park you will never forget. Enter the mile long Trail through the grove of twisted pines and gnarled oaks.

Encinitas Dia De Los Muertos
12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Encinitas Community Center
This annual celebration at the Encinitas Community Center (1140 Oakcrest Park Dr.) will also honor those who have passed on to the other realm. The free community event will feature art demos, student exhibitions, mariachi performances and so much more. NBC 7 and Telemundo 20 will host a booth at this event; drop by and say hello!

Yoga + Mimosa Mornings
9 a.m., Windmill Food Hall (Carlsbad)
Namaste right here… after a couple mimosas. Enjoy a Sunday morning yoga session at the brand-new Windmill Food Hall in Carlsbad led by a certified instructor. Afterward, 21+ participants can enjoy a mimosa at the foodie-friendly attraction. This class costs $5; bring your own mat.

Guided Nature Walk
9:30 a.m., Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center
It’s going to be a beautiful weekend to get outside! Take a free guided 1.5 hour nature walk from Mission Trails Regional Park. Along the way you’ll learn about animals, plants, and history of this park in San Diego.

The Best Coffee Spots in La Jolla

To be a successful coffee shop, you need strong coffee, good pastries and treats, and a great ambiance. If you’re looking for a place to sit down this Autumn and enjoy a cup of coffee and a great book, catch up with an old friend, or if you’re a student get some studying done, it is important to know which coffee shops are great to try in the La Jolla area.

For a great place to catch up with friends and enjoy a quick coffee and a treat, Brick & Bell is a favorite amongst La Jolla residents. Brick & Bell’s caring staff bakes delicious scones, cookies, pastries, and everything else you can imagine. It has homemade soups and sandwiches that you can pick up for a quick bite to go and it also makes a killer chocolate mocha.

Pannikin Coffee & Tea is not only good for breakfast as mentioned here, it is a great place to get a large coffee and knock out some studying. For the students out there, the quiet and cozy atmosphere, perfect during the winter, keeps you toasty and comfortable while providing enough space in the back tables for you to stretch out and lay out all the books you need. Post up in the corner with yours books and order a nice Chai tea. Enjoy.

The Living Room Café has great options if you’re looking for a heartier coffee snack. Both a place for studying and catching up, the Living Room is always crowded with a variety of people. You can enjoy foods from chocolate nutella croissants to delicious sandwiches like the California and Baba Ghanooj with toasted pita. Top it all off with a cool frappe or freeze in the summer heat.

If you want to venture down to Bird Rock, visit Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. It recently won 2012’s Roaster of the Year award for its’ awesome coffee. It has been said to be the perfect hipster hangout and spot for those who really care about the quality of the coffee they’re drinking. Bird Rock Coffee Roasters takes pride in its’ roasts, just what you want from your coffee house. If you’re a coffee connoisseur, then Bird Rock Coffee is a must.

Although you wouldn’t expect this restaurant to be considered one of the top coffee shops, Girard Gourmet has amazing pastries making it one of the best places to pick up your morning pastry and a coffee. It has a comfortable atmosphere and the ability to sit outside, so it’s definitely a fun place to go and take your time enjoying your morning coffee outdoors. Not to mention, Girard Gourmet just won best catering! Congratulations, all!

Arts, Crafts & Vintage Market: Pumpkin Festival
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday), Bates Nut Farm
Nothing says autumn better than a Pumpkin Festival. Couple this with Bates Nut Farm hosting its Arts, Crafts & Vintage Market showcasing upcycled, restored, vintage, and handmade wares including jewelry, soaps, fine art, woodworking and more. Meanwhile over at the farm’s pumpkin patch, visitors will find the Pumpkin Festival complete with fall decorations, tractor hayrides, a straw maze, pony rides and food vendors. Admission is free, but it costs $5 to park at Bates Nut Farm on the weekends in October.
