With Thanksgiving right around the corner, San Diego area events are picking up steam as we rush pell-mell into the holiday season. Grab your honey, a fistful of money, and if you have some kiddo’s, bring ‘em along as well as you get out and attend several promising events this weekend. San Diego Asian Film Festival
Thursday thru Sunday (various locations)

It’s that time of the year again, as the 18th annual San Diego Asian Film Festival kicks off and continues its spectacular run. The film fest showcases the absolute largest exhibition of Asian American cinema in the entire western United States, from future classics to incredible indie flicks. In excess of 150 films from 20 countries are on tap this year and will be screened through Saturday, November 18th. The screenings take place at six venues throughout San Diego, including: UltraStar Mission Valley; San Diego Natural History Museum (Kaplan Theater); UC San Diego Price Center Theater; Marriott Mission Valley; Digital Gym Cinema; and the Museum of Photographic Arts. Tickets to individual screenings will only set you back about $12. Alternatively, you can snag a 6-pack of tickets for $60, which may be used for all screenings except for closing night flicks. SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration

71st annual Mother Goose Parade
Sunday, 1 p.m., El Cajon

Come out with the kids and join former San Diego Padre Randy Jones, the 1976 Cy Young pitcher and 2017 Grand marshal of the 71st annual Mother Goose Parade this Sunday at 1 p.m. Understanding the value of unity, family bonding, and social togetherness that are designed for all ages, races and ethnicities, the Mother Goose Parade Association organizes 12-months a year, the Mother Goose Parade, the largest event of its kind this side of the good ‘ol Mississippi. The parade is rich in history, character and entertainment, and has thrilled and enchanted kids of all ages for in excess of six decades. This year like every year, the parade kicks off on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and announces the commencement of the holiday festivities. Watch clowns, bands, float and dignitaries completely free as the parade begin at El Cajon and Main Streets and proceeds east down Main! Arrive early with your folding chairs and grab early parking.

Global Winter Wonderland: ‘Circus of Light’
Sunday onward, 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., SDCCU Stadium

Can you really think of anything more exciting for the family than 17 acres of holiday festivities? The Circus of Light makes its way south from the state capitol of Sacramento and hits San Diego for the very first time this holiday season, setting up at SDCCU Stadium from November 19 through November 26th. The ultimate in family-friendly international celebrations presents the largest display of traditional Chinese lanterns outside of China, breath-taking acrobatic performances, a host of fun carnival rides, holiday-themed activities, plenty of games, mouthwatering food and, what else, awesome shopping! Your tykes and teens have an opportunity to jot their letters to jolly Santa and stop by and peep out Toyland, Candyland and the North Pole. Global Winter Wonderland will open daily at either 4:30 p.m. or 5 p.m., but is closed on some days. It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays in La Jolla! We are entering into the holiday season, and the festivities are officially beginning. Here are some festivities to enjoy for the end of November.

71st Annual Mother Goose Parade | Tuesday Nov 21

The largest parade in all of San Diego County is also the largest of its type west of the Mississippi. Each year, the Mother Goose Parade charms thousands of spectators and appeals to them to take to the streets of El Cajon. In excess of 100 colorful and exhilarating parade entries come from across the United States to share in the enthusiasm that is the Mother Goose Parade. Entries include impressive motorized floats, marching bands and drill units, equestrians, lively clowns sure not to frighten, distinctive characters, various performing artists, enormous helium balloons, and of course, the heavily favored kid favorite, Santa Claus. Surfin Santa Arrival | Saturday November 25

Are you ready for the Christmas season to begin? As we’re all aware, it kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and this year is no different, as Santa to busts out his board shorts and fave Hawaiian shirt to journey in from San Diego Bay on a seaplane for the 10th annual Surfin’ Santa celebration at Seaport Village. Beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until 5 p.m., people can pose for pics with jolly ‘ol Santa on his huge surfboard, riding a six-foot swell. Rounding out the festive activities are a parade along the boardwalk, crafting activities for the tykes, live street performers, and a wide assortment of unique, local shops to keep guests busy during the exciting event. Santa arrives at 849 West Harbor Drive, in San Diego. 38th San Diego Jazz Fest & Swing X

Shrewd jazz aficionados refer to the San Diego Jazz Festival as “the crown jewel of jazz festivals.” The event is organized during the Thanksgiving weekend at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center, in San Diego. 3rd Annual Tamale Festival

Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Escondido

One of the fantastic benefits of SoCal is the extraordinary Latin cuisine we’re all rather familiar with. Connoisseurs of tamales won’t want to miss the 3rd annual Tamale Festival which is going down this Saturday. The Escondido Tamale Festival is a festival of tamales and all the celebrated Latin foods that have become iconic staples of California’s culture. Come on out and travel back in time to the rich history of the Spanish and Mexican settlers who swayed and contributed so much to our multicultural community. The festival continues to grow as San Diego patrons gladly shuffle on over to feast on traditional, gourmet and yes, even vegetarian tamales. Vendors will be serving up Oaxacan, banana wrapped, Dulce, smoked BBQ varieties and plenty more! You can even get your pre-orders in for the holidays! Veterans Day Celebration

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., USS Midway

San Diego is a fantastic military city that trains, equips and serves the United States with some of the best women and men the country has to offer. Make it a point to show your gratitude this Veterans Day and honor American heroes aboard the USS Midway for a day of activities to honor U.S. military veterans. The event kicks off with a parade along Harbor Drive. Afterwards, you’re welcome aboard the aircraft carrier to enjoy live entertainment, a kid’s zone, grab some cool giveaways, and more. Military veterans and their families (up to four members) receive free admission. Ticket prices are $18 for adults, $15 for beloved seniors, $8 for retired vets, $13 for students ages 13-17 (with ID), and $8 for kids 6-12. Get out and support our veterans and make a day of it! Collabapalooza

Looking for a great excuse to hang out and tip a couple of brewski’s? Well, the fine folks at Collabapalooza have just the event for you this Saturday. It’s all about emphasizing and highlighting the camaraderie and communal spirit of goodwill with the fantastic people of greater San Diego. The craft beer industry joins in presenting brewers from across San Diego area to throw down a good, old-fashioned party. Stop by and give your palate a treat with mouth-watering food and, of course, a plethora of San Diego’s favorite craft beer. Tickets begin at $40 and include unlimited pours from one-off collaborations and very rare releases. In addition, all of your local classics will be on hand. Proceeds from the event benefit the San Diego Brewers Guild and the North Park Main Street Association. Padres Pedal the Cause

This awesome, 5th annual event raises much-needed money to find a cure for cancer by providing funding for four major, world-class research institutions located in San Diego. Get on over to Petco Park, hop aboard your bike and get to pedalling! The Padres Pedal the Cause culminates in a world-class event weekend. Throughout the two days of fun-filled festivities, people of all ages, skill levels, and abilities have an opportunity to rally around a singular vision: a world without cancer. It’s an early start at 5:30, but a great time to work off the chill in the air and support research. Participants, including kids, need to register for one of several courses.
