La Vida at Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery

-4

Twenty-five years ago, Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery opened in scenic La Jolla to showcase the amazing artistry of internationally acclaimed artist Orlando Agudelo-Botero. Orlando has been received and honored at the White House as well as at the Kennedy Center. Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery will be celebrating their 25th anniversary with the opening of a one-man show for this amazing artist debuting his new body of original paintings entitled “La Vida”. The opening reception for the artist will be held this June 10th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

La Vida is a series of unique and imaginative paintings that reflect on many significant aspects of our shared human journey: science, human rights, gender equality, spirituality, intelligence and all the responsibilities that come with our intellect. The paintings speak of the necessity of enhancing our collective human condition through the discovery of new schools of thought in order to better comprehend and evolve our human species and its universal position.

In Orlando’s words: “Life is a Study, a search and a discovery. It is a creation in progress; the creation of the individual. Life is creativity. Remember, creativity is the freedom of life.”

The Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery is located at 7946 Ivanhoe Avenue in La Jolla. For additional information, interested art lovers may contact Lisa Jacobsen at (858) 414-4375.

4 Things to do in La Jolla Memorial Day Weekend

shutterstock_622431773

Aside from honoring the brave men and women of our armed services who served in times past to the present, La Jolla has a lot going on this Memorial Day weekend. And true to its friendly community, La Jolla has something to offer to people of all ages.

Escape to Margaritaville

2 p.m. Sunday at La Jolla Playhouse

The world premiere of “Escape to Margaritaville” carries on with its extended, successful run at La Jolla Playhouse this Memorial Day weekend. Envisage a locale where the sun is ever brightly shining, the ocean is warm like bath water, and the drinks are as frosty cold as they are abundant. This is Margaritaville, the veritable island utopia where people from the cities are able to escape from their humdrum lives and where the locals get into the type of conflict that they are able to sweet talk their way out of each and every time.

The new musical play features classic Jimmy Buffett tunes that are able to charm the Devil himself. The story follows a part-time barkeep and part-time singer on a Caribbean island who falls head over heels for an attractive tourist, a delightful lady who causes him to examine the life he believed he had all planned out. Playwrights Greg Garcia (“My Name Is Earl”, “Raising Hope”) and Mike O’Malley (“My Name Is Earl”, “Justified”, “Glee”) blend a story in the works for years with Buffett classics, under the direction of award-winning director Christopher Ashley. For those who are unable to make it this Sunday, take heart, because the musical continues until July 9th.
