Sports plays a significant role at the annual La Costa Film Festival (September 10-13), not only because the festival itself is hosted at the historic Omni La Costa Resort which hosts several professional sport events like PGA and WTA tournaments, but because Carlsbad itself is a very “athletic community,” as described by founders, Michael and Ruby Callahan. This year, the festival also officially partnered with Mandalay Sports Media (MSM), giving them access to great sports programming. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s (MCASD) exciting annual Monte Carlo fundraiser will be making a splash September 12 with a unique new theme, Monte Carlo: Glamping at the museum’s La Jolla location. “Glamping,” the term used to describe glamorous camping, is fitting for the event’s 39th year. The gala will take advantage of La Jolla’s beautiful end of summer weather, and will feature a cocktail party, silent auction, and dinner in line with the event’s outdoorsy theme while guests enjoy a sweeping view of the gorgeous ocean below. With a variety of unique aspects to this party, the night promises to be full of glamour, delicious food, and good company.
Renowned British-American broadcast journalist and former Nightlineanchor Ted Koppel will be visiting San Diego in October to lead a discussion about his newest book, “Lights Out,” which details the consequences if there was ever a cyber attack on the U.S. The event is co-hosted by the University of San Diego and Warwicks La Jolla and will be on October 30 at USD’s campus.
