Fashion Week San Diego 2015 took La Jolla by storm in a whirlwind of glitz, glamour, and the awe-inspiring talent of this generation’s entrepreneurs. Opening the month of October with some of the hottest styles from local designers, this was truly an event to remember. Fashion Week San Diego is a world-class experience that combines industry professionals, promotions for designers, events, workshops, and fabulous runway shows.
The Designer Runway Shows were hosted during October 2nd & 3rd in the Village on Wall Street, showcasing 24 magnificent designers and featuring styles from Ready to Wear (RTW), Avant Garde, Jewelry and more. Fashion Week San Diego’s Founder and Director Allison Andrews opened the show, showcasing her custom-made garments and staple pieces from a few of the designers themselves. Alongside Allison, the show announcers included Jodi Kodesh, NBC 7 San Diego’s Meteorologist, and Jeff Krapf, TV Host and Live Event Announcer. This dynamic duo brought a palpably kinetic energy to both the stage and the crowd.
It was refreshing to see such inspiring individuals coming together to incorporate fashion, beauty and art. Hair and makeup styles were created by Bellus Academy, which entailed real gold flakes and spray in the hair along with vibrant shades of pink and blue on and around the eyes to articulate the latest makeup and beauty trends.
Now let’s talk about the designs…
Both Friday and Saturday nights’ runways showcased resort and swimwear from designers Alexandra Marie (Friday) and Candy Bee (Saturday), which was ideal considering the show was hosted in the heart of La Jolla and both designers are local.
Each designer did a marvelous job adding staple trends in their designs such as vibrant colors, patterns, cuts, and more, which portrays the image of our beautiful city. What mesmerized the crowd most, however, were the designs that went above and beyond. Designers such as Black Filigree and Alber Rezko added avant-garde elements like wire, tulle, and crystal embellishments that made my jaw drop. Fashion is truly an art, and it was portrayed perfectly during the shows.
Not only was the complexity that was incorporated in some of the fashion appreciated, but the simplicity in other garments was eye-catching as well. Lady Lane, Timmithea, Responsive Textiles and NaPostol fashion houses focused on lifestyle fashion (bridal wear, professional wear, etc.) complemented by their unique touch.
B.Jashi was announced earlier today as Fashion Week San Diego 2015 Top Designer! To learn more about the designers and Fashion Week San Diego, visit www.fashionweeksd.com.
