February 7th will mark the start of the largest Winter Olympics ever held taking place in Sochi, Russia. This year’s games will include 12 new events, such as the women’s ski jump, team figure skating competition, and freestyle skiing; bringing the total to 98 competing events. With opening celebrations less than a month away, here’s how you can experience Sochi in San Diego.
The U.S. Olympic Training Center will be hosting a number of events throughout the community. In collaboration with the U.S.S. Midway Museum and NBC7, the center will be hosting an Opening Ceremony viewing party on board the U.S.S Midway Museum on Friday, February 7th. The event is free to the public and will be held on board the flight deck of the famed aircraft carrier. Doors open at 6:30pm with a live program at 7:00pm, and followed by the Opening Ceremony broadcast at 7:30pm. Visit midway.org for more information.
The team USA store at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista recently debuted it’s brand-new line of limited-edition 2014 Winter Olympic merchandise. This is the only place to find official 2014 team USA apparel and accessories. Featured designers include Oakley and Nike.
