San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo

The world-famous San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park on over 100 acres of beautiful parkland. The zoo houses more than 4,000 rare and exotic animals of more than 800 species from the jungles and forests around the world. The San Diego Zoo has strived to build "cageless" exhibits for the animals so that they can be in the most natural environment as possible. The zoo is a major research facility which is cleverly disguised with exciting shows and amazing exhibits.

There is a 35-minute guided bus tour that provides an overview of the zoo and will acquaint you with the different areas where you may want to spend more time throughout the day. There are shows and animal presentations scattered throughout the park.

Tickets to the zoo are $40 for ages 12 and up and $30 for ages 3-11. There are also packages available if you want to visit the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park or if you want to visit the zoo, Safari Park and Sea World. One day admission to the zoo is free for U.S. and foreign military if they have a valid, active military identification card. The park opens at 9am every day of the year (including holidays) with varying closing hours, depending on the time of year.
