San Diego Safari Park
If a trip around the world is out of the question anytime soon, a visit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park might help quell your wanderlust. The San Diego Safari Park is located at 15500 San Pasqual Valley Road in Escondido. In the 1,800-acre Safari Park sanctuary, where wildlife preservation is a primary goal, animals roam freely in settings similar to their nature homelands. The Africa Tram Safari takes visitors on an exciting expedition through large field exhibits where you can connect with some of Africa's extraordinary animals. The friendly and knowledgeable tram guides give an in-depth description of the various animals and point out some of the characteristics of these unique creatures. You may see giraffes, rhinos, gazelles, zebras, buffalo, ostrich and antelope just as you might on a real safari adventure.
At the Safari Park San Diego, there are a few caravan safari options ranging in price from $130 to $190 for adults. These Safari Park safari adventures bring you up close and personal to the animals and offer amazing photo opportunities. These adventures are for adults and children ages 6 and up.
In its continuing efforts to gain a reprieve for dozens of endangered species, the Safari Park in San Diego Escondido has become known for its successful breeding programs and for the reintroduction of some endangered species to their native wild habitats. One such project is the California Condor Recovery Program. In 1982 only 22 condors remained in the wild. Thanks to the conservation breeding program, there are now more than 350 California condors, including 190 living in the wild.
The San Diego Safari Park, also known as the Wild Animal Park, is open daily, including all holidays. The Safari Park hours are as follows: Safari Park opens at 9 am and closes between 5 and 7pm depending on the time of year. Safari Park ticket prices are as follows: general admission is $40 for adults and $30 for children ages 3-11. This includes unlimited Africa Tram Safari rides and the Safari Park's Conservation Carousel.
